If you stepped away for ninety days, what would you come back to?

Most founders of $3M to $15M firms don't like their answer. Every decision still runs through them. In 90 days, The Entrepreneur's Edge finds what your company actually depends on you for, and builds the plan that takes it off your back.

Willard Barth speaking to an audience
The cost

The dependency has a cost. You're already paying it.

Growth you can't take on

Because staffing it means training someone to do what only you do.

A lender or a buyer

Asking who runs this if you're not here, and not liking your answer either.

A partner or key employee leaving

And the realization that their exit is survivable and yours isn't.

A succession conversation

A succession conversation you've moved to next quarter three times now.

And underneath it, the one that actually keeps you up:

That the thing you spent years building is worth a fraction of what it should be, the day you stop showing up.

Eight-area dependency check

Where is the dependency concentrated in your firm?

Rate each area from 1 to 10. One means the business depends on you for it. Ten means it holds without you.

Strategy and vision5 / 10

Is there an 18-month plan with owners and dates that moves without you?

1 · Nothing written down10 · The plan runs without me in the room

Where does lead flow actually come from?

1 · My personal network and reputation10 · A system that produces leads without me
Sales5 / 10

Can your team quote, negotiate, and close without your sign-off?

1 · Every deal comes through me10 · They close without me
People and accountability5 / 10

Are roles and accountability clear, or do all the fires come to you?

1 · Everything escalates to me10 · My leaders handle it
Operations and capacity5 / 10

Would the business break if volume doubled tomorrow?

1 · It would break10 · We could absorb it
Financial visibility5 / 10

Do you know whether a job made money before it is finished?

1 · I find out at month end or later10 · I know while it is running
Legal and IP5 / 10

Are contracts, intellectual property, and key person risks covered?

1 · We have never looked10 · Reviewed and current
Founder workload5 / 10

Could you unplug for 90 days without revenue collapsing?

1 · It would collapse10 · It would hold
50%
of these eight areas still depend on you

That is a rough read from eight sliders. The free Initial Business Diagnostic goes through the same eight areas properly and shows you where the dependency is actually concentrated, in a report you keep.

What changes

A company that holds up without you in the middle of it.

Not a business you've stepped away from. A business that no longer needs you in every decision, so you get to choose where you actually belong in it.

What that makes possible

You can take on the growth.
You can answer the lender's question.
You can have the succession conversation.
You can sell it, or keep it, and know the difference is a decision instead of a trap.
Willard Barth
Who I am

I know what it costs to be the one everything runs through.

I started my first business at 19. I've built companies, made millions, and lost them. I've been the person who couldn't step away because nothing moved when I did.

I've spent every year since 1989 in personal development and, since 1997, worked with founders and managing partners on the operational side of the same problem. That combination is the point. Dependency isn't only a systems gap. It's built into how you lead, decide, and hold on.

For sixteen years I've been the person a global consulting firm brings in when their clients need someone who has actually run a company.

What that has looked like

Full-service commercial general contractor
30 years in business
63 employees and $124M in 18 months
Landed on New Jersey's ten fastest growing companies and the Inc. 5000.
Lawn and landscaping company
20 years in business
307% revenue growth in three years
Multi-photographer commercial studio
In business a decade
93% revenue growth in one year

I speak on this to audiences across the country, and I host two television shows where I interview people who have made these changes. But the work itself happens with founders who are ready to look at why the business still runs through them.

How this works.

1

Find out where you stand.

Take the free business diagnostic, or book a BOSS Session. Sixty minutes, and you leave knowing where the dependency is concentrated and what it would take to remove it.

2

Do the work.

The Entrepreneur's Edge is 90 days. Three ways to go through it, depending on how you want to work. You end with a clear picture of what's actually limiting the business and a plan you can execute.

3

Run it, or bring us in.

Most clients take the plan and run it themselves. When execution needs more hands, I bring in additional advisors to help execute. That's your call, not a condition.

The program

The Entrepreneur's Edge

We find what your company actually depends on you for, across leadership, systems, revenue, and execution, and build the plan that takes those dependencies off your back.

The work runs on Willard AI, built on my methodology, so the personal work happens between sessions instead of piling up in a binder.

You leave with clarity on what's really limiting the business and a real pathway forward.

Start free

Start with the part most founders skip.

Phase one of The Entrepreneur's Edge is free. Register using your name and email. No card and no sales call required. It doesn't start with your org chart or your processes. It starts with the reason those things keep failing to stick: identity, belief, confidence, and positioning. How you lead, decide, and hold on.

This is the part that determines whether anything else holds. It's also the part that tells you quickly whether this work is for you.

Name and email. No card, no sales call.

Speaking

Associations. Conferences. Corporate teams. Rooms of twenty, rooms of a thousand.

The Anatomy of Transformation

How people actually change, and why most change doesn't hold. Built on seven phases, drawn from my own experience. A TEDx talk and a number one bestselling book came out of this material.

3 Keys to Unlocking Your Greatest Potential

What prevents high performers from achieving what they're truly capable of, and what moves them past it.

The Entrepreneur's Edge

Why the founders who build the most end up trapped by what they built, and what it takes to build a company that runs without them.

I also host two television shows, distributed on YouTube, Roku, and Fire TV, where I interview people who have made these changes.

Track record

The work has a track record.

"Your seven pillars gave me structure, foundation, tools. Not just warm fuzzies. There's meat on the bone and a real return on investment."

Bob Matson

"You're going to walk away with more confidence and an actual plan in hand. It's not wishy-washy. You walk away with a business plan you can implement."
